Coping with Dark Leadership: Examination of the Impact of Psychological Capital on the Relationship between Dark Leaders and Employees’ Basic Need Satisfaction in the Workplace

In leadership research, the Dark Triad of personality has become a topic great interest. This construct includes traits narcissism, Machiavellianism, and subclinical psychopathy is associated with several negative outcomes for organizations followers’ satisfaction. contrast, psychological capital, which hope, resilience, self-efficacy, optimism, positively related to extra-role organizational citizenship behaviors employee performance. Therefore, question arises whether people can benefit from capital when confronted manager that exhibits dark traits. Subsequently, purpose this study examine potential impact on relationship between managers work-related basic need satisfaction employees. Thus, dataset 469 employees was analyzed. Regression analyses demonstrated both work as predictors When controlling mediating effects, appeared partial mediator managers’ employees’ in workplace. The theoretical practical implications results, well suggestions future are discussed.
